Recovery, formulation & care
Therapy may include assessment, formulation, recovery planning and work with food fear, eating rules, avoidance, body checking, distress, shame and the systems around recovery.
A practical starting point if eating, body image, identity, culture, connection and recovery feel tangled.
Now welcoming new clients
You don’t have to be “sick enough” to deserve care.
Recovery here isn’t about willpower, a “before photo”, or making yourself smaller — and it isn’t one-size-fits-all.
You might be looking for eating disorder therapy in Perth, body image support in Nedlands, or online therapy because something about eating, food fear, body checking, shame or recovery has become hard to carry alone.
You may also be trying to find support that makes room for gender, sexuality, culture, neurodivergence, family, kin, safety and social and emotional wellbeing. Body Belonging Clinic was created for people whose story doesn’t fit neatly in one box.
Many people who reach us are navigating ADHD or autism and eating at the same time, where food, focus, interoception, sensory needs and appetite are tangled together. If that’s you, start with ADHD & disordered eating or autism, ARFID & eating.
You don’t need a formal diagnosis or a label to deserve support. Disordered eating, food rules and body distress all count — long before they reach a clinical line.
Any of these? You’re in the right room. You don’t need to be sure, or “sick enough”, to begin.
Therapy may include assessment, formulation, recovery planning and work with food fear, eating rules, avoidance, body checking, distress, shame and the systems around recovery.
Body image work may involve noticing what keeps distress going, building practical skills, working with shame, and making room for identity, safety, culture, connection and belonging.
Support can be identity-affirming, neurodivergent-affirming, LGBTQIA+ affirming and culturally grounded, with attention to the parts of life that shape how people feel, cope and recover.
Where helpful and consented to, therapy can include family, kin, carers, GPs, dietitians and other referrers so the work around the person is clearer and more connected.
If your child or teen is struggling with eating, food or their body, you’re likely frightened, and maybe quietly blaming yourself. You didn’t cause this, and you don’t have to fix it alone or say the perfect thing. You are the most important support your young person has, and here you’re part of the team, not left on the outside of it.
We work with children, adolescents and their families where ADHD, autism and eating overlap — sensory needs and safe foods, ARFID, and the appetite changes that come with a young, neurodivergent body — alongside your GP, a dietitian and any medical team where that’s needed. We’ll help you make sense of what’s happening and find a gentle next step together. You deserve support too: Eating Disorders Families Australia and the Butterfly Foundation offer free family and carer resources.
There’s no single correct pathway into support. The best first step depends on age, risk, referral needs, Medicare eligibility, current supports and what feels sustainable right now.
If you’re ready to begin, book online. If you’re unsure, email the clinic with a brief note about what you’re looking for.
A GP can help assess health needs and discuss referral pathways such as a Mental Health Treatment Plan or Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan.
Support may involve a GP, dietitian, family, kin, school, workplace or other practitioners — always with your consent, and only where it helps.
Early sessions focus on understanding what’s happening around eating, body, identity, safety, culture, connection and wellbeing.
Our gentle, no-shame starter guide to eating and the brain, what the overlap can look like, and a few kind places to begin. Free when you join, and you can leave any time.
Standard 55-minute session $200. Medicare rebates may be available for eligible clients with the right GP plan. You can start privately with no referral, or we’ll help you sort a plan for rebates.
For general information about eating disorders, signs and support options, you may find the National Eating Disorders Collaboration and Healthdirect useful. These links are general information, not a substitute for personalised clinical advice.
No. You can book privately without one. To access Medicare rebates you’ll need a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan, or a psychiatrist or paediatrician referral.
You don’t need to be sure to begin. We work with disordered eating, food fear and body distress wherever it sits. You don’t have to have it all worked out first.
Yes. That overlap is a core focus here. If it’s part of your story, start with ADHD & disordered eating.
